Pastorie Chicken

A classic South African one pot chicken recipe, our pastorie chicken gets an extra oomph from the Jacques Kallis Seasoning!



8 drumstick and thigh portions

400g uncooked rice

1 tablespoon Jacques Kallis Seasoning


50g mushroom soup powder

1 x 400g tin tomato and onion mix

500ml boiling water




  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a large oven dish with a lid.

  2. Season the chicken portions well with Jacques Kallis Seasoning and salt.

  3. Place the rice in the oven dish, sprinkle with the soup powder and add the tomato and onion mix. Pour over the boiling water and mix through. Arrange the chicken portions on top, cover and bake in the oven for 45 minutes. Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 15 minutes, or when the chicken is fully cooked, to allow the skin to crisp.
